The Mammoth Joe Mission
Master the craft of photography in order to showcase natural beauty and the human experience.
Our bodies and minds are remarkably powerful tools that can take us to great places. I want to create pictures that dramatically juxtapose humans in action in grand, wild places. An agile runner dances along a rocky ridge at sunset, high up in the mountains, far from anything. A climber sweats, teeth gritted, chalky fingers trembling, halfway up a giant boulder in a rocky wasteland watched over by snowy peaks. I strive to capture these compelling moments that verge on the spiritual and transcendent.
Have a vision?
We won't always rely on extreme places or situations to make the best photograph. The mountains, lakes, and forests may still be the backdrop, but the focus now will be on the individual, as they speak their emotions, their story, through their body language, clothing, looks, and style. Each piece a snapshot of our time and culture, each person a work of worldly art.
A portrait is a time capsule for this unique stage of your life. Express yourself outwardly through with your body and the ways you adorn it. Let me capture your art.
I believe that an image of a particular place, a canyon basking in morning light or a fragile meadow under evening alpenglow, can have the power to inspire in people an awakening to empathy for the land. With escalating dangers in climate change and ongoing battles to protect sacred lands, conservation inspired art is a potential catalyst in public action and political decisions. If a photo of a dying glacier or dust bowl farm can create an emotional response in viewers, then it has a place in perpetuating the movement to preserve ecosystems for the benefit of the future.
